    Enigme
Anne de Latour's ballet 2002
(music for percussions, piano and synthesizer)

From an Anne de Latour's original idea, the ballet, ordered by the Academy of music and Dance of Epinay-sur-Seine directed by Benoit Schlosberg, has been created on May 24th, 2003 in the France Epinay-sur-Seine Espace Lumiere, the nearby theater of the Studios Eclair, and met a very deep success.

The ballet is inspired by Oedipe and Sphinx' myths. Legendary and monstrous character, he asks a question which nobody knows how to answer: what is the animal which is on all fours the morning, in two legs in noon, in three legs in the evening ? But Oedipe resolves the Enigma and the defeated Sphinx dies. The city of Thebes can finally leave the stillness to find the mobility, the movement, the walking, the dance.

The small childhood to the youth, hesitating and joyful, the body expresses himself freely. Then comes the grown-up age with its fights, its wounds which it is nevertheless necessary to accept, its moments of fear where the spirit of the man gets lost in the confusion. The space, the time and the energy sometimes navigate without marks. The old age comes then where the stick can allow us to find a physical balance to leave finally and let an imprint which reveals the perpetual motion of the life.

The seven ages of the life which form so many musical chapters were written for the percussions of the Academy -marimba, drums, celesta, vibraphone, bongos, bass drum, various cymbals, gong, tom-tom- accompanied with a piano and two synthesizers.

Anne de Latour, choreographer stemming from the Opera of Paris, knew how to federate around her 70 dancers, a set of talents, professors, students, professionals, who made a work of future of this ballet.
